Focus and scope
Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria is an academic journal devoted to fostering scientific communication and educational innovation in Higher Education. It is aimed at researchers, faculty members, educational psychologists and academic administrators, so that they can share theoretical, methodological and practical advances that contribute to the transformation of university teaching.
We publish original articles in Spanish, which are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process. The journal is published twice a year (January and July) and adopts the Creative Commons Attribution license (CC BY), which ensures open access to all of its content.
We invite authors to submit papers related to the following research lines:
- Teacher training and professional development
- Educational innovation and transformative practices
- Educational technology and virtual learning environments
- Educational assessment
- Management, leadership and institutional improvement
- Inclusive education, equity and diversity
- Psychological factors associated with learning
- Curriculum design
Peer review process
The journal operates under a double-blind review process. The Editorial Board conducts an initial internal review to examine the relevance, coherence, contribution and scope of the manuscript, and to decide whether the evaluation process should continue.
The Editor-in-Chief assigns the peer reviewer for the article, whose verdict may be: a) the article may be published in its original version; b) the article may be published with the suggested modifications; or c) the article should not be published.
If the two experts invited to evaluate the article disagree, a third reviewer will be asked to arbitrate without knowledge of the previous evaluations. The publication decision will be made on the basis of the two concurring evaluations. This process takes approximately two months.
When authors are asked to make modifications, they must submit them within 15 days so that the article can be evaluated again.
After receiving the new version of the article, the Editorial Board will verify compliance with the recommendations and will notify the final decision on acceptance within one month.
The average time for the entire editorial process, including final corrections (copyediting and citation formatting) and layout, is six months.

Code of ethics
1. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria adheres to the ‘Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors’ (http://publicationethics.org/files/u2/Best_Practice.pdf) and to the ethical provisions of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), as well as to Law No. 172-13 of 2013 on the handling of personal information in databases and Law 65-00 on Copyright of August 21, 2000, of the Dominican Republic.
1.1 Ethical guidelines for authors:
Every document submitted for publication in Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria must have been thoroughly reviewed by its authors, in accordance with the policies defined by the journal.
Papers derived from research involving people or organizations must have the corresponding authorization from them, which must be submitted together with the paper.
Each paper submitted to the journal must be the original work of each of the persons who sign as authors. A paper translated from another language is not considered original.
Although it is not considered self-plagiarism for authors to base their statements in the definitions, theoretical framework or methodology sections on other works they have written, it is essential that the contributions and conclusions differ from those of previously published works, whether by the authors themselves or by others.
All authors must declare that the content of the article is original and is not under consideration for publication in any other print or electronic outlet. If the manuscript is a preprint, this must be stated explicitly.
When an author is a member of the journal's editorial board, they will be excluded from the reviews and decisions concerning their own work.
1.2 Ethical guidelines for peer reviewers:
The journal's editorial board invites persons with a research track record in the area of each submitted paper to serve as peer reviewers. However, if a reviewer considers that they do not meet the profile, do not have the time, or have a conflict of interest in evaluating a document, they must say so, so that the editorial board can assign another reviewer.
The peer reviewer must provide an assessment that is as clear and rigorous as possible, without using offensive language, so that the Editorial Board can decide whether to accept or reject a manuscript.
Documents sent to reviewers by Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria are confidential, and their review is therefore limited to evaluation purposes. Citing them as unpublished manuscripts or using their content before publication constitutes improper and unauthorized use.
1.3 Plagiarism policy
Plagiarism in articles will be penalized by barring the author(s) for two years. Plagiarism is the act of reproducing or paraphrasing segments of other authors' work without proper referencing or acknowledgment. Plagiarism occurs when:
- Fragments of other people's work are included or used without quotation marks or reference to the source.
- Text is copied and pasted directly from other sources without indicating that it is a verbatim quotation and without referencing the source.
- Images, tables or diagrams are included without acknowledging their origin.
It should be noted that plagiarism, whether intentional or not, is a serious offense and may be subject to legal action.
All other matters not addressed in this section will be resolved according to the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines.
Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria promotes the ethical, responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research and scientific writing, which applies to authors, reviewers and the editorial team, in line with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
1.4 Policy on the use of artificial intelligence
Use of AI by authors
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in the preparation of the manuscript, indicating the tool used, its purpose and the extent of its use. This information must be included in the publication authorization form and mentioned in the methodology or another relevant section of the article.
AI may be used for support tasks such as grammar and style correction, text organization, summary generation, data processing and analysis, and the preparation of tables, graphs or figures, provided that the authors verify the accuracy of the results, preserve the confidentiality of the information and take full responsibility for the final content of the manuscript.
Artificial intelligence may not be listed as an author or co-author of an article. Likewise, AI-generated content may not be presented as original work without critical review, substantial editing and validation by the authors.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the use of AI tools does not compromise scientific integrity, the originality of the work, the protection of personal data or the ethical principles of research.
Use of AI by reviewers
Reviewers may not delegate the evaluation of the manuscript, in whole or in part, to artificial intelligence tools.
Reviewers must preserve the confidentiality of the manuscript and avoid any use of AI tools that could compromise the privacy of participants and the unpublished information contained in the document.
Editorial review
The editorial team may request clarification regarding the use of AI and reject manuscripts that fail to comply with this policy or in which undisclosed use of these tools is detected.
1.5 Allegations of misconduct
In the event of allegations of misconduct in published articles or articles in the publication process, the journal will follow the guidelines and procedures of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The editorial team will assess the evidence and determine, in accordance with the COPE protocol, whether there is misconduct to be investigated. The Editor-in-Chief will appoint a member of the Editorial Board to investigate the case, with the Editor-in-Chief acting as final arbiter with no further appeal. In all cases, the accused will be presumed innocent and will have the right to a defense. If a sanction is imposed, the parties will be informed, as will those responsible for research at the respective affiliated institutions. Decisions may result in corrections, retractions or withdrawal of the publication, which will be publicly communicated through editorial notes linked to the original article.
2. ARTICLE REQUIREMENTS
By submitting an article, authors accept that the work has not been previously published, is not under review by any other publication, and that its final version has been approved by all authors. To verify their originality, articles will be analyzed with the Turnitin plagiarism detection software.
2.1. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
During the submission process, the submitting author must disclose all conflicts of interest related to the work by sending a communication to the journal's editorial office for that purpose. If the article is approved, this information will be included in the final text, in a Conflicts of interest section.
The following types of conflict are identified:
Financial conflicts, arising from sponsorships, shareholdings or consultancies;
Personal or family conflicts, arising from relationships with authors, reviewers or editors;
Academic or professional conflicts, arising from direct competition, past collaborations or mentoring;
Personal or ideological conflicts, arising from political or religious convictions that bias judgment.
Conflicts are in turn classified as actual, potential or apparent, and must be disclosed to ensure the integrity and credibility of the research.
The journal will actively publish, in its About section, whether or not each author has a conflict of interest.
2.2. AUTHORSHIP ATTRIBUTION
Cuaderno de Pedagogía Universitaria requests that, before submitting an article, the attribution of authorship be assessed for each author, so that each author's contribution to the work can be clearly determined. The journal recommends using the authorship criteria of the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). Likewise, the final version of the article must include an Author contributions section describing each author's contribution.
The journal considers an author to be anyone who makes:
1. Significant contributions to the conception, rationale and/or design of the work
2. The acquisition, analysis or interpretation of the data
3. The drafting or critical revision of the text, providing relevant scientific contributions to the development of the work
Every person listed as an author must take responsibility for all aspects of the work and must therefore be fully available to answer any questions about the accuracy or integrity of any part of it.
Contributors who do not meet these conditions must not be listed as authors, but should be acknowledged in the acknowledgments section.
In addition, authors must carefully check the order in which they are listed before submitting the article. Any addition, removal or change in the order of authors during the review process or after acceptance must be requested through a letter signed by all authors and sent to the Editorial Board by email, justifying the requested change to the author list. The Editorial Board will review the case and apply the change if it deems it justified.
3. OPEN ACCESS AND COPYRIGHT POLICY
The journal follows a diamond open access model: it does not charge authors APCs (Article Processing Charges) or any other fees, nor does it require readers to pay for access. Its operation and sustainability are guaranteed by institutional funding from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM).
It is based on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge; accordingly, its articles are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY), whose terms can be consulted here.
The journal authorizes the total or partial reproduction of the content of the publication, provided that the source is cited, that is, the name of the journal, author(s), year, volume, issue number and pages of the article.
The ideas and statements expressed by the authors are their sole responsibility and in no way commit the journal.
Authors must sign and submit the evaluation and publication authorization form provided by the journal, aligned with the CC BY license. The form can be downloaded here.
The form must be signed by all authors of the article; if this is not possible, the signatory or signatories declare that they are authorized by the non-signatories to proceed with this assignment of rights. The journal allows and encourages authors to post their work in repositories or on their websites after the release of the issue in which the work is published, in order to increase its dissemination.
4. RETRACTIONS AND CORRECTIONS
Requests for corrections, clarifications or withdrawal of articles after publication must be sent to the Editorial Board through the journal's official email address (cuaderno@pucmm.edu.do). Requests will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee in accordance with the journal's editorial and ethical policies and the relevant international standards.
When deemed necessary, the journal will publish corrections and retractions of published works. In order of severity, these are: retraction, addendum, major erratum and minor erratum. The first case corresponds to the publication of a document preceding the original work, acknowledging the error(s) and presenting the corresponding correction. In the case of addenda and errata, the corrections are made in the text.
In the case of retractions, a document is published acknowledging the unintentional or intentional inaccuracies in the work; such inaccuracies may include, among others, plagiarism or the presentation of manipulated data or images that invalidate the results obtained.
5. COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS
Complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions, ethical issues or published content must be addressed directly to the Editor-in-Chief through the journal's email address (cuaderno@pucmm.edu.do). Receipt of the complaint will be confirmed, and the case will be assessed in coordination with the Editorial Board.
The Editorial Board will examine the matter within a reasonable period and may decide to dismiss the complaint or open a formal investigation. If an investigation is opened, additional information may be requested from the parties involved, and the resolution will be documented and officially communicated.
When a complaint is upheld, the decision may be reported to the corresponding affiliated institutions, and the necessary editorial measures will be taken, such as corrections, retractions or withdrawal of the article, to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.
